Extend NAS Functionality with a PCIe Card
With a PCIe Gen 2.0 x 2 slot, the TS-853DU-RP provides flexibility in extending NAS functionality and potential applications. To optimize system performance, install a QNAP QM2 card to add M.2 SATA or NVMe SSD caching/10GbE connectivity and use with Qtier tiered storage for optimal system performance. Wireless connectivity can be added by installing a QNAP QWA-AC2600. A QXG-10GbE/5GbE network card adds extra high-speed network ports. Alternatively, you can add an affordable QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB 3.2 Gen 1 to 5GbE adapter to enjoy higher network speeds or boost the USB connectivity by installing a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) card.
SSD Caching and Auto Tiering for Optimized Storage Efficiency
The TS-853DU-RP supports SSD caching to improve the workflow of random IOPS demanding applications such as virtualization. Qtier™ Technology empowers the TS-853DU-RP with auto tiering that continuously optimizes storage utilization across high-performance SSD and high-capacity SATA drives. Qtier™ 2.0 features IO-awareness that empowers SSD tiered storage with a cache-like reserved space to handle burst I/O in real time, greatly maximizing the advantages of SSD.
Easy and Secure File Management
File Station centralizes files stored on your TS-853DU-RP and in the cloud. You can easily upload files from your computer, drag and drop files between folders, rename files, delete files, and configure file and folder permissions to prevent unauthorized access. With Microsoft Office Online you can directly open and modify Microsoft Office documents stored on the TS-853DU-RP without having to download them to your local device. When sharing sensitive/confidential files on the TS-853DU-RP, use File Station to encrypt files into .qenc files, set a password, and use QENC Decrypter to decrypt the file.
Multi-Point File Backup, Access, and Sync
The TS-853DU-RP supports common file sharing protocols (including SMB/CIFS, AFP and NFS) for Windows®, Mac®, and Linux®/UNIX® devices. Coupled with Qsync (a utility that transforms a QNAP NAS into a secure, high-capacity data center for file synchronization) any file uploaded to the TS-853DU-RP becomes available for all linked devices, such as computers, laptops, and mobile devices. Hybrid Backup Sync helps you easily backup or synchronize data on the TS-853DU-RP to another QNAP NAS, remote server, or cloud storage for disaster recovery. Additionally, QuDedup technology greatly improves the efficiency and storage utilization of multi-version backup by deduplicating the backup data. You can install the QuDedup Extract Tool on your computer and restore deduplicated files to their normal status.
Protect Important Data with Snapshots
Snapshots fully record the NAS system state and metadata and can be used to quickly restore files to previously-recorded states if they are accidentally deleted/modified or if the system is compromised by ransomware. QNAP snapshots are block-based and only record modified data. Not only does this save storage space, but also reduces the time required to back up and restore data.
Stay Notified of System Status and Security
Notification Center consolidates all QTS system events and alerts, providing you with a single-app solution for notifications. Security Counselor evaluates and recommends settings to improve NAS security.
Low-latency Access to Cloud-based Data

HybridMount File-based Cloud Gateway
Flexibly expand your storage capacity by connecting to cloud storage. You can leverage QTS apps to manage and edit cloud-based files or monitor multimedia files. HybridMount is ideal for file server online collaboration and file-level data analysis.
VJBOD Cloud Block-based Cloud Gateway
Mount object cloud storage as a block-based volume or LUN on a NAS. Block-based data transmission uploads random data and large files to the cloud in blocks, and only block-based volume or LUN changes (such as addition, modification, or deletion) will be transmitted. This is ideal for enterprise-level applications with large file transfer requirements (such as databases, VM volumes, and videos).
Next-generation Surveillance Solution
QVR Pro allows you to establish dedicated, independent storage space for surveillance data on a TS-853DU-RP and leverage the advantages of scalability and storage manageability of QTS.
